The colourful Parthenon Frieze

As we wait for the reopening of the Acropolis Museum after a period in which has been closed owing to the COVID19 pandemic, we are led to reflect.

Last year we were privileged to attend a conference in Athens, “The reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures” organised by the Presidency of Greece. Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos stressed that reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures was “institutionally fair and morally imperative.”

The conference, held at the Acropolis Museum, was co-organised by the Republic, the Ministry of Culture and Sport, and the International Association for the Reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures.

On the eve of the conference participants took part in a guided visit to the Acropolis Museum, led by Prof Pandermalis, the Museum’s Director. Here are just a few iPhone shots from the event.

Apart from the outstanding display of the Parthenon Marbles, in the ‘shadow’ of the Parthenon audiovisual display exploring some of the unique features of the Parthenon Frieze. We wasted no time in capturing a few moments of the display on my iPhone. Apologies for the poor quality images
